"I find that changing the oil on their boats is one of the few things people do themselves. Customers only tend to have the service department change their oil when they have ordered to have something else fixed. Haven't come across too many…"

"Sorry James, I was assuming you were a dealer not a manufacturer... Do you have readily available parts lists that tell us what items are needed for annual services? That would be very helpful...because most dealer info management systems allow for…"

"If you are a Yamaha dealer, take a look at the F40LA model. We added a new page with all of the normal service items all on one page. You can quickly create a pick list from that one page and save the job in Part Manager Pro to be pulled up at a…"

"So you feel that a significant number of your customers do change the oil for themselves on thier 4-stroke outboards? I am also thinking about kitting items used in 100 hr services by engine family. Of course, this would also save time for the parts…"

About me.

I have worked at Yamaha Motor Corporation, USA for the past 20+ years. I have been in the service division for most of that time, working the technical assistance hotlines as an RTA from 1988 to 1992, covering GA, AL, TN, N. FL as a District Service Representative from 1992 to 1994, Supervising Marine RTAs in the Southern Region from 1994 to 1996, providing support to the Marine Sales Group as a Systems Analyst from 1996 to 2000, Managing the Service Department in the Southern Region from 2000 - 2004 and most recently (2004-2009) as the National Marine Service Manager. In February 2009, I became the Manager of the Operations Department in our Marine Rigging and Parts Division. Prior to coming to Yamaha, I worked as an Outboard Boat Rigger, Outboard and Stern Drive Technician, Parts Manager and Service Manager at a small dealership in Columbus, GA (Action Marine, Inc.) from 1978 to 1988. During that time I was a Certified Technician for Mariner, Yamaha and Evinrude Outboards, Mercruiser and OMC Sterndrives.

Hi James - I want to ask you a loaded question. Do you use or are you aware of your Yamaha Employees Credit Union? The reason I ask this is becuase I am on a committe to start a marine industry credit union and I was given a list of small non-proforming credit unions to talk to about merging with the marine industry credit union. Any information will be very helpful to us.

Thanks
Chris Lyons
