Underwater dock lights have been around since the 1970's. Herbert Larrimore patented underwater dock lights in 1976 that were designed to protect ships and docks from being attacked by scuba divers. I don't know if Mr. Larrimore ever sold any of his lights to the Defense Department, but these high output iodine quartz lights sparked an industry that is still going strong today.
